Individual Counseling in Chicago and La Grange IL
Individual counseling in the Chicago area
Melinda Yachnin, LCPC, counselor in Chicago and La Grange IL
You find yourself struggling more and more with anxiety, stress and irritability. It’s not that you don’t love your life, it’s just that it can be too much sometimes. You want to take care of yourself but it is so hard to find any time or energy once everything else in your life is taken care of.
Job, relationship, children, parents, friends, personal health: there aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all!
Counseling can’t add more hours to your day but it can help you get perspective on all that you have got going on and what you can actually do that will help. Talking with someone who really gets it can be just the support you need to make the changes that matter.
Be Kind to Yourself
It starts by understanding that you are doing the best you can; it is just really hard sometimes. Counseling can reinforce views and perspectives that help you create a life that works for you.
Healthy Boundaries
So many challenges develop when we lose our sense of what we are actually responsible for, what we can actually control, and what we cannot. Counseling can help you see where you have choices that make the biggest difference in your relationships, whether at work or at home.
Prioritize What Matters
Get back in touch with who you are and what matters most to you now. Figure out how to put that into action and communicate all of it to the people in your life. Counseling can give you a safe, judgment-free space to explore all of this and more.

Frequently Asked Questions About Counseling in Chicago and La Grange IL
-
Many people use counseling and therapy interchangeably in the Chicago area. There really is no difference, it’s just a personal preference which word you use.

Counseling can be a great option if you notice that you are struggling more days than not, in your relationship or just in yourself; if you keep trying to make things better and nothing seems to work; if you know what you need to do yet find that it’s just so hard to get yourself to do it. You may feel stressed out, anxious, discouraged and just want to figure out how to feel better. Counseling is beneficial in just these circumstances. Meeting with a skilled clinician can give you just the support you need to make the changes you seek.

Generally, I meet with individual clients in person, online, or a mixture of both. Some clients prefer the ease of online sessions; others would rather meet in person. Virtual therapy can be easier to schedule, as my in person sessions are limited to the days I am in either the Chicago or the La Grange office.

There are two answers to this: some clients prefer to do short-term solution-focused counseling, which typically involves 8-15 weekly sessions. Other clients benefit from long-term counseling, meeting every week or two for as long as the counseling process is helpful. I would check in with you periodically to see what makes the most sense for you.

I am in-network with BCBS-IL PPO, so if you have that insurance, the cost to you would be the copays and deductibles charged by your policy. If you have another kind of insurance, then you would pay my standard fee ($165 per 45-50 minute session). I am happy to submit claims to your insurance so that you may be reimbursed if your policy allows for that.
