Melinda Yachnin LCPC Counseling in La Grange and Chicago IL
You are finally ready to look for a good couples therapist and yet you don’t know where to start. So many therapists out there in the Chicago city and suburbs, how do you find the one who can help you? Finding a therapist you click with is hard enough; finding one that you both like can be harder still.
I’m Melinda Yachnin, and I specialize in couples counseling for people in long-term relationships. I have been counseling couples and individuals for almost 30 years in the Chicago area and am especially passionate about working with people on their connections with each other. I received my BA from the University of Colorado in History, my MA from Loyola University Chicago in Pastoral Counseling, and did my early training with Lorene Replogle Counseling Center. I have completed training in Gottman Levels 1 and 2, EFT (Emotion-Focused Therapy), and RLT (Relational Life Therapy), and I am also a certified sex therapist.
I have been married for 25 years and raised three children with my husband, a perspective that has enhanced my commitment to helping couples navigate the many stages of a life together. I know how challenging it can be!
I know it can feel like a big step to call a counselor, but I’ll make it easy. We’ll spend 15-minutes on the phone and I’ll let you know how or if I can help. If I am not the right person, I am happy to suggest the names of other excellent therapists.
Contact me at (312) 409-4960 for your free 15-minute phone consultation for couples counseling in Chicago and La Grange (in person) or anywhere in Illinois (virtual). You deserve to be in a relationship that is thriving and connected and not bogged down by old hurts.
Frequently Asked Questions About Counseling in Chicago Area
-
Many people use counseling and therapy interchangeably in the Chicago area. There really is no difference, it’s just a personal preference which word you use.

Counseling can be a great option if you notice that you are struggling more days than not, in your relationship or just in yourself; if you keep trying to make things better and nothing seems to work; if you know what you need to do yet find that it’s just so hard to get yourself to do it. You may feel stressed out, anxious, discouraged and just want to figure out how to feel better. Counseling is beneficial in just these circumstances. Meeting with a skilled clinician can give you just the support you need to make the changes you seek.

Generally, I meet with individual clients in person, online, or a mixture of both. With couples, I prefer to meet with clients in person in either my Chicago office or my suburban La Grange office, but I understand that sometimes a couple needs to meet virtually. I am happy to accommodate that if it can be done in a way that is beneficial to your treatment goals. For intensive counseling couples, meeting in person is a key part of what makes the process work.
